As we head deeper into the new year, many of us might be craving a bit of a getaway by now. Though making safe travel plans remains difficult with the challenges posed by the coronavirus, fortunately there’s still plenty of ways to plan a mini-escape right here in Miami. This week we’re sharing our guide to having the best staycation imaginable--no planes required! Read ahead for our tips for enjoying all our incredible South Florida location has to offer!
It’s easy to forget about our access to world class museums when caught up in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. A staycation is a good time to carve out a visit to one of these gems, like the Museum of Contemporary Art right here in North Miami. MOCA features an excellent collection of modern and contemporary art. Entry to MOCA is spaced to protect museum guests and comply with covid safety regulations, so you’ll want to reserve tickets and plan your visit beforehand here.

Missing the opportunity to travel and experience all the thrills of a new city? Enjoy a mini getaway by meeting for a drink at one of North Miami’s most fabulous cocktail bars. The St. Regis Bar in nearby Bal Harbour is the perfect spot to sip specialty beverages and some of the world’s finest wines in an ultra luxe and sophisticated atmosphere. The vibes and setting create that special vacation feel without ever needing to leave Miami.

Miami’s restaurant scene truly has something for everyone, and a staycation is a great time to treat yourself to some of these terrific spots! At the top of our list is Ornos Estiatorio in Aventura, the new Greek-inspired restaurant from world-class chef Michael Mina. Escape to the Mediterranean with a menu that features deliciously fresh fish--they boast South Florida’s first fish sommelier!--and other flavorful Greek specialties. Book your reservation for lunch, brunch, or dinner here.
To see what’s on the cutting edge of contemporary street art, plan a trip to Miami’s Wynwood Walls. Recently reopened, Wynwood invites visitors to explore their open-air collection of murals and sculptures, all created by internationally-recognized artists. They are now using timed ticketing to ensure visitor safety, so be sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time here.

One of the best things about a staycation is the opportunity to be a tourist in your own city for the day. With fewer travelers visiting at the moment, it’s an especially opportune time to hit the beach. Check out the beaches at nearby North Shore Park or Surfside Beach for a quiet patch of sand slightly further away from the typical hot spots. Spread out your towel and enjoy soaking in all the goodness that comes with living right here in our very own tropical paradise!
We hope you get to experience some of these amazing Miami treasures! Tag us at #LiveShoreline to show us how you’re spending your staycation.
